April 19, 2017-So #1 on the list is not what you’d expect and maybe some of you won’t be too happy with me, but I believe that first place on the list goes to…
All of the cats that have loving homes. Sure they may not have an inheritance worth millions and they may not have merchandise or be celebrities or have a television show, but what they do have is a family that loves them. They have a warm and comfortable home with the occasional cat treat or toy and once in a while maybe even some catnip. There are pictures of them on the wall or the mantle and the ones who have crossed the rainbow bridge are forever memorialized in a special spot in the yard or in an urn in the china cabinet.
They have a warm and comfortable home with the occasional cat treat…
April 2, 2017- We’ve all done it before. Each and every one of us. Either we’ve fallen deeply in love with a character that stirs our souls and makes us empathize with the problems they face in every chapter of the book. Or we’ve wished sudden death and pain and suffering upon a character who’s actions and words make our stomachs churn, and our brains seek revenge for what they’ve put our beloved hero through.
So how are characters created? Where do we find them as writers and how do we plant the seed of them onto paper from our minds? Take a good look around you right now, wherever you are, and you’ve got an idea or ideas for character development. You could be sitting in a hut in Timbuktoo, isolated and alone but you still can create characters. The character could even be you! Here are a few…

My heart almost stopped at the sight of her. She was surrounded by hired henchmen and was fighting with all of her might to free herself but it was no use. The tall, thin human let out a laugh and I wanted to destroy her.
“Oh dear! Look at the petulant soul, trying to free herself to no avail!” she chirped delightedly. She glanced at us and smiled.
I pulled with all of my strength on my restraints once more but there was no chance of getting free of them. I had a plan and I prayed that it was going to work. I looked at Bernard and saw that he had been muzzled upon capture but…

October 19, 2016- The intensity of the explosion caused us to fall to the ground. My immediate thoughts turned to Bernard. I prayed that he had not been done away with but at this point, the tall, thin woman was capable of anything. The stakes had become even higher than before.
I held onto the large human and he carried me like a football as we raced across the street. I wondered what was happening and I had a hard time finding my bearings. It was if he could read my mind because he said, “We need to get out of here NOW!” He threw his elbow through a driver’s side window and opened the locked door from the inside. He put me on the seat and pulled out a bunch of different coloured wires from under the steering wheel. I watched as he twisted a couple of the wires…
December 30, 2016- As I sit here typing and reflecting on the past year (instead of cleaning my house like I should be:) I know that I have so much to be grateful for.
I’d like to thank every single person who purchased, talked about, flipped through, listened to me read etc. Panda the Very Bad Cat. You are one of the many reasons why my 2016 was so wonderful. It was an absolute pleasure to go to events, go into schools and into the community to share Panda’s story. I truly hope that this silly, entertaining, naughty cat brought you as much joy as it did to me as I wrote it. That’s really the point as a writer and a human being, isn’t it? To spread as much joy as possible. I sincerely hope that I’ve done that because you’ve given me so much to be joyful about.
The best part is, that this is only the beginning! There is so much more to come. More stories to be told and more emotions to evoke and more to be thankful for. So my wish for you dear friend as we embark on an amazing year to come is that this year will be exactly what you make of it! Make it happy, make it healthy, caring and wise. Make it exciting, fun and adventurous, make it anything you want it to be because only YOU have that power. 2016 for me was magical…I hope it was for you too, depends on how you look at it. Yes, we may have lost a lot of things and people in 2016 but look at what we have to gain…love, understanding, peace, trust, and hope.
So I hope that 2017 is exactly what you decide for it to be.
